Senator Sharpe
Louisiana has always had a special place in Senator Sharpe's heart. Born and raised in New Orleans, she has lived through Hurricane Katrina and the impacts of the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill on the economy and the wetlands.
In high school, Sharpe was an active member of the student government and made strides to promote green living in her community. After high school, Senator Sharpe continued to embrace the environment, studying environmental studies at Middlebury and spending a semester abroad in Costa Rica. There, she realized the true importance of the environment and made her decision to continue on the path. After college graduation, she continued to Duke to pursue a PhD in Environmental Policy.
Being a member of the city council gave her more chances to explore government and what change needed to be made on a local level. 12 years ago, Emily Anne Sharpe was elected to the Senate as a vibrant young woman ready to make change and protect our wetlands.
The people of Louisiana have increased their confidence in Senator Sharpe. During her first election cycle, Sharpe only won by a narrow margin of votes but as the public began to understand the true importance of natural resources and the wetlands her margin of victory increased to almost 20%. Now, Senator Sharpe has spent long hours striving to create legislation with a positive impact on the wetlands at home and across the United States.
Along with being an advocate for Louisiana and its most important asset, Sharpe is a doting wife and a loving mother of three. Sharpe is the mother of twin girls Adelaide and Kate and a son William. The family spends time around the New Orleans community supporting local business and being involved with the area. Once a month, Sharpe sponsors local seafood gatherings with her constituents promoting the importance of local fisherman to the community. When not busy with her Senatorial duties, Sharpe and her husband spend time volunteering with Beach Sweep and have spent time green-scaping their yard to promote a better environment.
